Aims and Scopes
Coupled thermal-hydraulic-mechanical-chemical (THMC) processes in fractured earth systems are critically important to the evolution of the earth, and they play key roles in a number of near-surface and subsurface activities, including carbon sequestration, energy storage, nuclear waste disposal, geothermal exploration, oil and gas exploitation, and mining. This special issue aims to highlight and summarize recent advances in coupled THMC processes in fractured earth systems, particularly those using computational and numerical modeling approaches. Contributions will be based on selected submissions to CouFrac 2022, the 3rd International Conference on coupled processes in fractured geological media: observation, modeling, and application, which will be held in Berkeley, California on November 14-16 of 2022.
