Special Collection in JRMGE - Biomineralization in Geotechnical Engineering

Pubdate: 2023-02-10  Viewed: 789

Aims and Scopes

Microbially Induced Carbonate Precipitation (MICP) is rapidly growing and recognized as the most innovative technique in geotechnical engineering. The foundation of MICP is biomineralization, a natural process involving bacteria that plays a crucial role in the formation of minerals. In geotechnical engineering, the targeted application of biomineralization produces inorganic cementitious materials, changing the intrinsic state of rock and soil masses. Biomineralization in geotechnical engineering is a multidisciplinary field involving biology, chemistry, mechanics, and engineering. Recent studies have extensively explored biomineralization in geotechnical engineering, both in laboratory and field cases, and have demonstrated its capability to improve the mechanical and engineering performance of infrastructure, including foundation treatment, liquefaction mitigation, seepage control, dust control, contaminated soil treatment, concrete self-repairment, heritage repairment, etc.

This special issue, referred to as BGE, aims to provide a platform for presenting recent advances in biomineralization in geotechnical engineering. Submissions of innovative theoretical, numerical and experimental research outcomes are highly encouraged. Both original research articles and review papers are welcome for publication in the Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. The official website of this journal can be found at https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/journal-of-rock-mechanics-and-geotechnical-engineering.
