On 28 March 2022, World Geothermal Congress (WGC2023) Organizing Committee (OC), Dean of Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (JRMGE) and Guest Editors of this Special Issue signed the “Special Issue Agreement” online. Mr. Zhiguo Han, Vice President of Sinopec Star, chaired and witnessed the online signing ceremony. Professor Hui Zhou (Guest Editor of the Special Issue, Deputy Director of State Key Laboratory of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering), Mr. Songqing Lin, (Dean of JRMGE), Professor Jinxia Liu (Guest Editor, Chief Expert of Sinopec Star), and Professor Dawei Hu, a scientist in Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the ceremony. Mr. Yanxin Wang, Director of Technology & IT Division, Sinopec Star, signed the agreement on behalf of WGC2023 OC.

Mr. Zhiguo Han proposed that this cooperation would further stimulate the enthusiasm of experts and scholars worldwide in the field of geothermal energy, expand the influence of WGC2023 in the geothermal research community globally, promote academic exchanges among researchers, and contribute to a successful World Geothermal Congress.

According to the Agreement, this Special Issue will focus on the exploitation and utilization of geothermal energy. Professor Hui Zhou, Professor Jinxia Liu, Mr. Seto Andrew (Vice President of Technology of Energi Simulation) and Professor Dawei Hu will serve as the Guest Editors who will be responsible for peer-review and other editorial process of papers. Meanwhile, WGC2023 OC will be responsible for propagating this Special Issue online and during the congress. The Guest Editors will also invite the authors to submit high-quality papers to JRMGE Special Issue (Column WGC2023), i.e. the 7th World Geothermal Conference - Geothermal Energy Exploitation and Utilization on the JRMGE official website (http://www.jrmge.cn/). The paper submission deadline is 15 May 2023, and the Special Issue will be published on 15 October 2023.
